Victory for Democracy

Dear Responsible Citizens!

Congratulations to one & all who voted in the elections of TN- Irrespective whom you voted for.

A turnout of about 80% initially led to a speculation that TN Voters have once again become cheap victims for Money for Vote. Every National Media proclaimed that TN like Money for Vote practice may spread & catch every state.

For Many TN Voters - it was a great insult when many fellow beings fell for money in By-elections & Parliament elections.

Most of the media claimed that exit polls predicts a neck to neck race & may even bring back the same rule.  But what was the result - a clear one sided result. Ruling Coalition went to a miniscule.

Peoples' clarity + election commissions’ efficiency + better coalition led to this result.

So My Friends what does this Election Results of Tamilnadu means :
1. Most of us want - Politicians & Government to be clean, efficient, to give effective administration.
2. Most of us don't believe in Media Hype.
3. Most of us believe in democracy- we don’t get anything easy, we have to fight for our rights.

 Election commission's initiatives were new:
1. Voter slips were given by election commission itself. Previously political parties were giving the voter slips & it showed the party symbols up to the booth. This time party men were not allowed to sit anywhere near the polling booths.

2. No cut-outs, no posters, no graffiti on walls, no loud speakers, no car line ups for campaigning.

3. Though money flowed in many constituencies, it was thinned down to limited pockets due to effective monitoring raids of EC made it tougher for money givers.

Media- especially internet & email campaigns & interactions were very effective- what could be boldly put in print media could be discussed in Blogs. Spectrum scam was the highlight of all. Though many sections of media were one sided, it also helped in propaganda of right & wrong things.

India Against corruption movement also played an important role - Anna Hazare's fast & mass support activated many hitherto non-voting - grumbling middle class elites to wake up on corruption made them beeline in many urban pockets resulted in higher voter turnout.

So the situation really helped democracy to live & kick the corrupts out of helm.

My request as a responsible citizen is that - believe in the system. So far whatever wrong things happened, we blamed on democracy. It was mainly because we the elements of democracy didn’t function or inactive or not working in cohesion. If we work with cohesion with clear goal & right path, we can overthrow any corrupt government or politician out of our democratic setup. Let us throw way our pessimistic attitude towards corruption - if we simply say we can’t do anything about corruption it only means we want corruption & we are only interested in giving & taking bribes.

So any politician cannot take people s' view lightly. If we fight for the right cause & in right means we can be a very responsible society. We can live peacefully.

Whoever it is- Anna Hazare or Baba Ramdev or greenpeace - if they fight for democratic rights & duties in a peaceful & rightful manner - we need to join them & extend our solidarity & be a part of this Great Democratic republic called India - Bharth Mahan.

Lot more things we need to fight for in our democracy.

Long Live democracy.

Best Regards
